shipping policy Our handmade wooden toys are made from mostly Australian hardwood timbers, meaning they're robust and usually with a bit of weight to them. The great news for you is that we offer FLAT RATE POSTAGE! ​ Just $8.95 for any size order. ​ We do accept local pick up for anyone wanting to make the drive to Yarra Glen, VICTORIA 3775 (it's beautiful out here!!). Just simply choose 'Local Pickup' when checking out and an email will be sent with exact location and order confirmation. Local pickups require confirmation of your item production to be finalised and ID to confirm identity on arrival. ​ return and exchange policy Unfortunately we cannot accept exchanges or refunds for change of mind on purchases. Whilst every effort is made to use only sound dry wood, occasionally the rustic component of a product may exhibit cracking and bark peeling or flaking. In most cases this will not affect its intended use. If this occurs however, the product may contain small parts, and may not be suitable for children. our story I'm Matilda, one side of Once a Tree (computer stuff, research, product development, packing, sending and mum to the cutest toy testers in tow n) and my dad Scott who handcrafts everything in our shop inventory. Every bit of material collected, perfectly cut, sanded, routed and finished is all done by him. He has single-handedly helped to turn my ideas/sketches (sometimes far-fetched) into reality. Once a Tree began in the same space it exists today, our shed in the Yarra Valley. What began as an outlet for our creativity ; creating handmade wooden toys for my little boy, quickly became something we found so many others were interested in and longing for - toys that weren't light up, plastic or flashy. We care about quality, sustainability and on top of everything PLAY! Each product is handcrafted using recycled and salvaged materials; thoroughly and carefully designed, cut, sanded and finished, right here by us. Environmentally Friendly Open Ended Play Our wooden toys are specifically designed taking into consideration the types of recycled timber we are able to accumulate. The natural timber we use are offcuts or salvaged materials that would otherwise end up burnt or in landfill. We are always looking for ways to reduce the environmental impact, always ensuring we look for Australian made products to source. Safety All our handmade wooden toys are designed and made with children’s safety in mind and made to meet AUSTRALIAN STANDARDS AS/NZS 8124. Please read all product descriptions and care instructions carefully to ensure you are purchasing and using each item for its intended purpose so as to not damage the product or more importantly, put your child’s safety at risk. We have done our best to make these terms clear in each description and cannot be held responsible should an item be misused or the information provided be ignored. ​ All products are intended and designed for children above the age of 36 months unless otherwise stated. Some products may pose a choking hazard and it is not recommended that children who still put objects in their mouth have access to our toys unless fully supervised. All products that are coloured have been done so using non toxic food grade dyes, and most products are finished with a natural linseed oil or locally sourced beeswax

customer care Our products are real timber and provided they are well looked after; will last for years to come. Wooden toys are not suitable for water play as the product will absorb the water and cracks and splits may appear as it dries. To care for your products, or remove marks made from little hands, a quick wipe over with a damp cloth and natural cleaner (ie; vinegar) should bring back the wood to its natural beauty. Frequently asked questions about our handmade wooden toys Where do your materials come from? Our handmade wooden toys are unique. Our materials are sourced in the state forests surrounding the Yarra Valley in Victoria, Australia, from dead and wind fallen trees. We also take delivery of off cuts of Australian hardwood timbers to recycle as the bases of many of our products. We are passionate about not disturbing the bush we collect our materials from, while we provide ethical and sustainable toys for creative children. How long does it take to make my order? Each wooden toy is sourced and completely handmade from scratch, please allow up to 2 weeks (longer during busy time periods) for your order to be made. Postage relies on Australia Post (our carrier) however shipping time is usually between 3-5 working days after production is completed. What if a crack appears in my product? We take great pride in the products we deliver to customers. Each piece is carefully cut, sanded and inspected before delivery. Whilst all care has been taken to ensure that timber has no cracks, due to circumstances out of our control - interior climates, timber species or unseen faults in the timbers, unfortunately some pieces may develop small fractures or cracks over time. If this occurs, this should not affect the overall product; however if you are unsatisfied, please get in contact with us and we will happily repair or replace the damaged component. Are your timbers or coating toxic? Whilst our products aren't suitable for under 3 years or children who mouth objects; we have ensured that the timbers selected and the coatings are completely safe and non toxic. Bases are made from recycled dried Australian hardwood species and the timbers and branches are all sourced from dead or wind fallen trees found in our local state forest. All products are coated in a completely natural linseed oil or a natural beeswax sourced from a local Victorian hive - This helps to preserve the timbers as well as give them a beautiful unique smell. Do your products comply with Australian Standards? Each and every one of our products is completely unique due to their rustic nature - which is great for you! however it means that an overall test of a single product is not achievable as each product is different. We do however make sure that each component of each products comply with; 1. Small parts testing - ensuring no part is too small for little hands 2. Durability testing - to ensure that our products will withstand toddler play! 3. Material Quality and finish - Choosing materials that are durable and able to be handled by little hands for years to come! If you are at all dissatisfied with an element of you product, feel free to get in contact with us and we will happily repair or replace What are the 'imperfections' in the timber that you talk about Our bases of our products and our block sets are completely handmade using recycled Australian hardwood. The hardwood used is not of furniture grade meaning that it often can have darker grains, knots and sap veins running through different pieces. We believe this sets our products out from the rest, and while we check all our pieces and take care that there are no sharp edges or anything that would be dangerous for little hands, we do also appreciate that this may mean a product may not be suitable for you.
